Paper matrix belongs to one of the copying techniques of movable-type printing. After the text content is composed, paper matrices can be made for mass printing.

In the 1970s, the production capacity of paper matrix was insufficient in Japan. The exhibit showcased here is a product made by a Taiwanese company in cooperation with the Japanese. They produced Chinese and Japanese paper matrices and then exported them to Japan for casting lead plates. Paper matrices are easy to preserve and they can be transported to many far-away places for printing, thereby creating a good condition for the publishing and printing of books, especially for newspapers.
