  • Detail
    • Function / Purpose:
The saddle stitching stamping machine was used for tightening and flattening book spines during binding. As the original factory mostly used it for saddle stitching, it was called the saddle stitching stamping machine. Prior to industrialization, most binding was done by hand using this method, giving this machine significant historical interest.
    • Characteristics:
This saddle stitching stamping machine was originally owned by the Dadi Printing Company founded in 1949 by Mr. Chin Chung. It was part of the equipment left behind from the Japanese Colonial Period and is a free-standing wooden book binding stamping machine. Dadi was a large printing company that managed everything from type-casting, proofing, typesetting, printing and binding. Its collection of international matrices and movable type is quite well preserved as well. Modern book binding is generally automated and there are various formats available including paperback, stitching, adhesive, loose leaf and hardcover. Automatic binding machines have also replaced tightening/pressing books by hand.
