      Purchased by the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection, M.O.E.A. in 1956, this calibrator was an instrument used to inspect the accuracy of taximeters in the early days.
    • Characteristics:
      The transportation service provided by taxis is more convenient than public transportation. They provide an indispensable means of transport in modern cities; therefore, the accuracy of the taximeter is always an issue of concern for both the taxi drivers and passengers. Early taximeters were mechanical type, which were used since 1961; however, after 1987, they have been totally replaced by electronic ones. Like the electronic taximeters we use nowadays, the mechanical taximeters also needed to pass an examination before being used for business. Generally, a taximeter needs to pass two inspections before leaving the factory in order to ensure its accuracy of registering fares. The first one is called static inspection and a qualified meter will be added with a lead seal after passing it. The second one is the annual running inspection, after which a lead seal will be added on the qualified meter already installed in the taxi. Generally, consumers have two simple ways to inspect if the taximeter has been modified: 1. Inspect if it has the following dubious signs such as a missing qualification tag, expired validation and incomplete display of digits; 2. Inspect if the lead seal is complete without any sign of break or damage.
